Buddha Dhamma is not a religion, but it only an education. The relationship between Buddha and the followers is a relationship between teacher and student, Lord Buddha is our teacher and the follower is the student. All in the Tripitaka is a lesson for all students. That’s why since long ago we call Buddha as 佛教 (Education of Buddha Dhamma).
Buddha Dhamma has some ceremony to praise Buddhas and Boddhisattvas, that so similar with religion which is known well in society, that’s why other people call Buddha Dhamma as a religion.
